The number of overdose deaths have been on ths rise for several years now due to the increased availability of fentanyl. Fentanyl is also being used to lace other drugs as well, so often times users don’t even know they are taking it. Union, SC has no clinic where addicts can receive methadone to combat the detox from fentanyl and other opioids. Methadone is their only treatment option for fentanyl addiction. Drugs like Suboxone and Subutex will cause precipitable withdrawals, which can be agonizing.
Options
In the absence of opening a clinic in Union, the reasonable option is to have a bus or large van that can shuttle addicts to and from the closest clinic which is 30 miles away. Almost all of the addicts I have spoken to want to quit, but lack of transportation is preventing them. Addicts often times don’t have vehicles or license. Help4Heroes has decided to try to do something about this by raising money to purchase a van or bus and hire a driver.
That is why your donations are so important to our mission. We cannot do anything without sponsors. We only need to raise a few hundred dollars to cover some organizational fees to obtain 501 (c)(3) status which will open the door to government grants and corporate sponsors. And once we obtain tax exempt status any donations made since or incorporation will retroactively become tax exempt too.
